Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet is under fire with a lawsuit
Amazon has already been sued for patent violations for its Kindle Fire tablet. The Kindle Fire has not even made it into the hands of the lawyers, but doesn’t bother the Acacia Research Corp. lawyers one bit.
It appears to me that this “research” corporation is in business just to buy up old patents and other intellectual property that companies no longer have a use for and then try to sue everyone they can find for violating its patents. Some of the patents are written so vague that the act of an elephant stepping on an iPad could be considered a violation of Acacia Research’s patents, depending on what the iPad did before it was firmly embedded into the asphalt parking lot.
Now, you will not find Acacia Research on the lawsuit, but you will find Smartphone Technologies LLC. Follow the money and you will see that Smartphone Technologies LLC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Acacia Research Corp.
Acacia Research Corp is being referred to as a “troll.” You, know, like those trolls that live underneath bridges and try to extort money from people attempting to cross the bridge.
They have also filed suits against Apple and RIM for the same violations, but Apple and RIM stood their ground and basically told Acacia Research “Take a hike and we will see you in court.” Hopefully, Amazon will stand firm and defend themselves.
