Dish Network pushes FCC for waiver to build wireless broadband network

Dish Network (Nasdaq: DISH) continues to press the FCC for a waiver that would let it use spectrum from TerreStar Networks to build a wireless broadband network. "Without the waivers, it is highly uncertain that Dish can commence wide-scale design and construction efforts for a terrestrial network, and it is certain that any design and construction activities that may be undertaken at all will have to proceed at a significantly slower pace," Dish wrote in a FCC filing on Oct. 27. Dish responds to critics of its plan in the filing, including Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE: S), T-Mobile USA Inc., and MetroPCS Communications (NYSE: PCS). It has told the commission that it wants to build a hybrid network based on LTE-Advanced using 40 MHz of spectrum from TerreStar.
